We are Paula and PK, long-term travellers over the age of 45. Probably not hipster enough to be ‘midsters’ (Google it, it’s a thing) we are nevertheless part of a middle-aged exodus from careers. A fear of growing old at our desks, feeling unsettled at home and night of Little River Band karaoke got us here.*
We aren’t new to this life. We had a trial run at this for two years, through eleven countries, in 2012-13. We learnt some lessons and went home, earnt some money and then left permanently in 2016.
We blog honestly and openly about life on the road. This may offer some inspiration for travel, or it might put you off and make that desk look not so bad. There’s definitely times I’d rather be back there. I’m Paula and I do most of the blogging. PK generally just drinks a lot. Hence, I have a booze section were he can write about wine. He’s also the main support crew and my male model for most photos.
This is a life journey story as much as a travel blog story. We are a second-time round couple and chose this life together because we want to make sure every damn second counts. We aren’t a travel resource site (there are a heap of people doing those well already) and don’t expect sunset pics of either of us doing yoga. There will be swearing, the odd political rant and probably cat and dog pics.
*Why Out on the Sea Alone?
Why ‘Out on the Sea Alone’? It’s a lyric from ‘Cool Change’ by Little River Band. It featured significantly in our five-minute decision to chuck our real lives in. Seriously, turn it up loud and sing it. It will make you want to quit your job. Most of the time we are in boats travelling by sea, and we certainly feel rudderless so it also explains where our heads are at.
